A Portrait of a Family
A family portrait is a uniquely personal art form, rich with feeling,
meaning and memories. A Family Portrait can capture the warmth and essence
of a family in a way that no other medium can. It can express the look and
feel of a familiar place as well as conveying the dreamlike quality of our
fondest wishes. A family portrait is collaboration between artist and
family. The themes are as unique and varied as the families themselves.
A different kind of Family Portrait
A Family Portrait is Sunday morning cuddling in bed with the children, a
story book and pets. A Family Portrait is that special family ritual of a
marching band. A Family Portrait is the favorite holiday meal with the
entire family. A Family portrait is preparing for a meal in the kitchen
under the loving gaze of the spirits of departed relatives.
We begin with a discussion of what is the most meaningful context to portray
your family in. Often I have traveled to meet with families in their homes
to help them to get a better sense of what they will want but this is not
necessary. Working primarily from photographs of family members and objects
to be included, I create a full color thumbnail painting of the work for
approval . The actual portrait can be done in oil paints on canvas or
collage and acrylics on canvas.
