COMMISSIONS

 ABOUT THE COMMISSION PROCESS…

A commission is a collaboration, a partnership between the client and me.  It often begins with the vaguest of ideas but ends up being exactly what was intended. My role is to take this imprecise vision and to turn it into a reality. It begins with a conversation in which I listen to the client’s ideas. Then I create a full color miniature or maquette showing what the finished piece could look like. Now we have something physical to discuss, not just abstract ideas. We talk about what is working and what needs to change and based on that I revise the maquette. Once in a while I get the conceptualization right in the first maquette but usually it takes two or three rounds to create the perfect vision for the piece. These maquettes are in themselves small works of art and often my clients frame them. They show how the creative process unfolds. The fee for developing the final maquette is $1500.  If we then proceed with the commission, the price of the maquette is included in the price of the final work. The cost of a commission varies according to the size and complexity of the painting. Typical fees range from $8000.00 to$35,000.
